Twenty-five years ago, I found myself trying to endure one of the toughest days I have ever experienced on Colorados Dream Stream.

Although it contradicted everything that I thought I knew about fishing that river, I finally lashed a big black Wooly Bugger to the end of my line.

Rather than scaring the heck out of every fish that resided in those waters like I thought it would, it wound up being one of the best days Ive ever had on The Dream.

Thus began the obsession to design my own simple leech pattern that was as effective as the venerable bugger but was more snag resistant.

The result of an accident that I had at my tying vise has evolved into a pattern that I can fish in nearly any body of water to fool just about anything with fins.

Ive fished this same basic pattern for over 2 decades and I had been keeping it as my secret weapon as it has rarely ever failed me.

I finally decided to stop being a jerk and share it with my fellow fly fishers and introduce the Lo-Rent Leech.
